Educational Objectives: The major of Biological Science fully implements the Party's educational policies, implements the fundamental task of ‘cultivating people with morality and intellect’. It is committed to cultivates students who are well-rounded in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor. The students should have good ideological and political qualities, high ethics and professional conduct, advanced educational concepts, solid knowledge of biological science, excellent teaching and research abilities, and continuous self-development abilities.  Graduates can engage in biological science teaching, research and management in middle schools and educational institutions. The graduates will become backbone teachers of biology in middle schools in the future.

Main Courses: Students in this major mainly study the basic theory, basic knowledge and experimental skills in biological science, and learn the theoretical knowledge and skills required for biological education. The main courses include Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Ecology, Genetics, Education, Psychology, and Biology Course Teaching.

Faculty: There are 55 full-time teachers, including 8 professors, one provincial-level special-appointed professor, 3 university-level special-appointed professors, and of which are 39 doctors.

Achievements in Major Construction: The major has established the Henan Provincial Higher Education Biological Science Teaching Demonstration Center and the Discipline Teaching (Biology) Master's Degree Program. With the support of the Henan Modern Biological Breeding Collaborative Innovation Center, it has established research platforms such as the Key Laboratory of Plant Gene Engineering Technology and Application in Xinxiang City, the Key Laboratory of Crop Root Biology and Green Efficient Production and the Molecular Biology School-level Key Laboratory. It has provincial-level quality courses and first-class courses such as Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Plant Physiology and Biochemistry. The major has five teaching and research offices: Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Medicinal Plant Chemistry, and Botany, and has established more than 20 off-campus internship bases.

Employment Directions: Graduates of this major can work as middle and primary school teachers, as well as in enterprises, scientific research institutions, administrative institutions and universities. They can be engaged in biological science research, technology development and other related fields.

Representative Outstanding Graduates:

1. Bai Na, graduated from our university's Biological Science major in 2016, and graduated with a master's degree in Microbiology from Yunnan University in 2019. She has now been admitted to the doctoral student in Microbiology at Yunnan University.

2. Liang Jing, a 2019 graduate of our university's Biological Science major, has been admitted to the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

3. In the first graduating class of our university's Biological Science major in 2016, six female students from Room 2#214 in the same dormitory were admitted to master's degree programs together. Li Changchang and Wang Xiaomeng were admitted to Huazhong Agricultural University, while Wang Xiufang, Bai Na, Zeng Wenjie, and Wang Huanhong were admitted to Lanzhou University, Yunnan University, Gansu Agricultural University, and Kunming University of Science and Technology, respectively.
